Accident

Somebody lost their life today
On the main road to Southampton
Queuing cars snailed caterpillar-ike
Drivers with resigned faces
becoming more and more impatient
I saw
An overturned lorry
Did anybody think
Someone lost their life today?

The Outing

We went for an afternoon tea
At a place just out of town
There was a lady singing
Memories of our younger days
Which seem a million miles away
From where we are today
As I listened and sang along
A vision appeared in my mind
Of the younger generation
Sitting in our places
Eagerly listening to the Beastie Boys
Now seventy years of age
Playing Last Exit to Brooklyn

(It’s surreal, I know.)
But I can’t let that image go!
